I just moved into a home that is on septic.

The house sat vacant for 4 years.  There was a buyer-provided septic "inspection," but that was just a flush 'n run test, not a full tank inspection.  I have no idea when it was last pumped out or fully inspected.

Since moving in a week ago, I've not had a problem with any backups or slow drains when doing laundry or taking showers (single guy living alone).

I have some acreage, and wondered about the effect on my septic system if I have a large number of guests over (75-100).

Is doing this just inviting trouble?

Would I be smart to get Porta-Potties and lock the bathroom door?

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

You are certainly going to be stressing your septic system with that many people.  If you do let them into your bathroom, I would highly recommend getting your tank pumped right before the event.  This will give the system some surge-flow storage capacity.  A port-a-john is a very good idea and the best way to make sure your septic doesn't get pushed to the limit.  A huge flow, even if it is just one day, could damage your field system by stirring up your tank and then transporting sludge and solid material into your field system (material that isn't supposed to leave the tank).

Let us know how it goes!
