Hello! I'm so glad I found this forum, not many online that I could find.

Anyway, long story short is Im trying to buy a house and VA requires septic inspection. The house I am purchasing has had some landscaping and a pool added. It also had some concrete added.

Roto-Rooter said the tank was covered by concrete and that it would be 100 to tear it out and do the inspection. Since the pool was professionally installed it makes no sense to me that they would cover the tank let alone the county would sign off on the permit or inspections during this...

So, I have attached a photo of the area I think the septic tank would be located. Do any of you think or agree that this may be the area to access the tank for service, pumping and inspection? I cant go out with a shovel myself because we are still in escrow or I would...

thanks much

If you know that the tank is in that general direction, I'd guess that there's a 70% chance that the tank is indeed in that grass area.
That said, you shouldn't assume that anyone was aware (or concerned) with your septic tank and absorption field locations when installing the pool or concrete slab.
Make sure there are no utilities in the area and try probing it or digging.  The top of a typical septic tank is about 8' x 4.5'.   There should be an access lid on the inlet and outlet portion of the tank.  The center of the lid should be about 18" in from the end of the tank and centered from the sides.

Your tank may be in good physical shape but your absorption field may had been compromised when the pool was installed.  Don't be surprised if your system fails the inspection  Angry
