We all know that a warranty can be a great thing.  If you've bought a new washing machine under full warranty and that washer breaks down within the warranty period, the retailer or manufacturer will fix or replace the unit (or at least that's the idea).

The life span of a septic system is different from that of a major appliance.  In general, the life of a septic system is a function of the amount and strength of wastewater put into the systems.  The life span also relies on proper care and feeding and periodic cleaning of the septic tank.

Some excavators give warranty's on the septic systems that they install.  Some for one year, some for longer.
Here are some general questions regarding warranty's:

How long is the warranty and what does it include?

Doesn't the idea of a warranty take away any incentive that the homeowner has to take care of the system?  How do you safeguard against this?

What kind of maintenance do you perform during this warranty period and at what kind of costs?

Have you had to go in and repair the system under warranty?
